Abstract:

The influence of sizes compatibility on the mechanical properties of blended size films and corresponding pulp adhesion were studied. The morphological structure of the blended size films were characterized by using scanning electron microscope and X-ray diffraction, and the relationsip between different size components and film properties was investigated. It is found that, when the mixing ratio of polyvingl alcohol (PVA1799)/modified starch is 40 to 60, the blended size pulp has the greatest adhesion force and the blended size film has the greatest tensile strength and elongation, and PVA polymers having low degree of alcogolysis (PVA1788 ) can cause the phase separation and smaller crystallinity in the blended films, which lead to the poorer mechanical properties of the blended films. In order to rise size compatibility and strengthen mechanical properties of blended films, size components should be as few as possible.
