Sequencing optimization of fabric spreading and cutting based on genetic algorithm in garment manufacturing

Abstract: Genetic algorithm(GA) have recently been applied to the scheduling and line balancing problems in garment manufacturing.However,these applications have been limited to sewing operations.This paper presented a fabric spreading and cutting sequencing(SCS) model using GA to solve the sequencing problem of the computerized cutting system used in the garment industry.Chromosome was expressed in real number string in the algorithm.Bit string of mutation and crossover were employed in the operation.The results obtained by comparing the actual production cycle and the proposed model using GA indicate that GA is an appropriate and effective technique to solve the problem of sequencing optimization of fabric spreading and cutting in garment making.
