Abstract: For the purpose of combination of the antimicrobial effect of the silver ion with the high absorption properties of the alginate fibers, silver ions can be added into the alginate fibers to prepare silver-contained alginate fiber and wound dressing. This paper introduced various methods for adding silver into alginate fibers and analyzed the properties of silver-contained alginate fibers and wound dressings. The results showed that by incorporating fine particles of silver sodium hydrogen zirconium phosphate, the silver-contained alginate fibers can maintain white physical appearances whilst provide a sustained release of silver ions when in contact with wound exudates.Test results prove that these fibers are highly effective against bacteria.
