Abstract: The dynamic behavior of the fabric is rather complex when it moves in machine direction during weaving, dyeing or finishing. While running at high speed, the fabric vibrates, which has great influence on the fabric itself and on the performance of machine. Therefore, the dynamics characteristics of the fabric moving in machine direction are investigated.Firstly, the principle of D′Alembert is used to develop its dynamics model and then theoretical analysis is conducted of both the free and forced vibrations of the fabric moving in machine direction.Secondly,a formula is introduced for calculating the natural frequencies and critical velocity of the fabric for prevention of sympathetic vibration. The basic types of vibration and vibration shapes of fabric are also analyzed.Findings presented in this study have practical significance in guiding production.
