Abstract: The presence of some free surfactants in the adhesive prepares by traditional emulsion polymerization will affect the bonding force of the adhesive. To overcome this shortcoming, soap-free acrylate adhesive was synthesized with polymerizable surfactants of sodium monoalkylpolyoxyethylene maleates. The polymerization process of the soap-free adhesive emulsion was optimized, and the product was characterized by FT-IR, particle size analyzer, TEM and DSC. The results indicated that the resulting adhesive emulsion has uniform distribution of particle size, good electrolyte resistance, and enhanced water repellency of the emulsion film. The emulsion was applied to static flocking, and the relationship between technological factors and flocking fastness was studied. It showed that the soap-free adhesive had good bonding force and the flocking fabric with this adhesive emulsion had good rubbing fastness(over 2000 times), meeting the requirements of flocking fabric for garments.
