Abstract: In order to probe into the dyeing and anti-altraviolet property of tea polyphenol on textile fabric, the high-purity tea polyphenol was applied to silk by using ferrous sulfate, copper sulfate and potassium aluminum sulfate as mordant respectively, and with post-mordanting method. The study result shows that the color hue of silk varied with mordants., ant the dyeing of silk with tea polyphenol had good buid up property. During washing fastness test, relatively great color change was occurred, particularly with ferrous salt, but the staining on adjacent fiber was slight whilst the apparent color depth at their maximum absorbent wavelength for all samples was increased. By measurement of ultraviolet transmittance curve of dyed silk, it was observed that dyed silk with tea polyphenol would provide with desirable anti-ultraviolet property. Under the same mass concentration of tea polyphenol and the same amounts of metal ion, the silk with ferrous salt mordant produced the best anti-ultraviolet property at A ultraviolet band, followed by copper and alum salt. While all the three kinds of mordants had the similar anti-ultraviolet property at B and C ultraviolet band.
