Abstract: Abstract Polyimide fibers and their properties were introduced in this review, including fire resistance, good mechanical properties, heat resistance and radiation resistance, especially its inherent fire resistance. To further enhance the thermal stability of polyimide fibers, more attention was recently paid on modification of the fibers. Compared with other fibers on limited oxygen index (LOI) and working temperatures, polyimide fibers exhibit obvious advantages in the field of high temperature protection and filtration, supporting the application of heat-resistant and flame retardant materials.

Key words: polyimide fiber , flame ratardance , high temperature resistance , limited oxygen index
