Abstract: The aim of present work is to determine the flow characteristics of compressible airflow in the yarn duct of interlacer by numerical simulations to make the effects of cross-sectional shapes of yarn duct on the performance of interlacers. CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics) software package ANSYS CFX is used to calculate flow patterns in yarn duct. Relations between the performance of the interlacer and distribution of velocity vector, airflow speed and particle trace of flow were clarified to propose the knowledge of design better interlacers. From the results of calculation, if vortices on the middle cross-section of the yarn duct make filaments revolve continuously, large number of tangles can be achieved. The velocity at the central point of the yarn duct decides the sufficiently opening of the filaments. However, too higher velocity makes filaments stay on the wall, hindering them from tangling with each other.
