Abstract: For appearance of the problem that weighting silk yellowed by the use of potassium persulfate(KPS) as an initiator in the process of methacrylamide ( MAA ) graft weighting silk yarn, potassium persulfate ( KPS ) and sodium dithionite( SH ) redox initiator system for silk yarn grate weighting was put forward to adopt to improve weighting silk whiteness. Also the effect of various process parameters on the graft weighting rate was studied in this dissertation. The results showed that: KPS&SH redox initiator system gave a better whiteness than KPS only in MAA graft weighting silk yarn; when the concentration of MAA is 0.4mol/L, mass ratio of KPS&SH initiator and MAA monomer was 5:100, molar ratio of KPS and SH was 10:3, under process conditions with pH value at 3, 70℃ temperature and a grafting reaction time of 70mins, silk yarns graft weighting rate was essentially the same as that with KPS only, but the whiteness was improved by 19 degrees.
Key words: silk, graft weighting, KPS-SH redox system initiator, weighting rate, whiteness
