Abstract: Encapsulated carbon black was prepared by miniemulsion polymerization using the polymerizable surfactant SE-10. The effect of the monomer structure, amount of initiator, reaction temperature and time on properties of encapsulated carbon black was investigated. The results show that MMA was suitable for preparation of encapsulated carbon black, and the optimal encapsulated conditions were that the molar ratio of MMA to carbon black, weight ratio of initiator APS to comonomer, reaction temperature and reaction time were about 5:1, 2.0%, 80℃ and 2h respectively. Particle size of encapsulated carbon black was 157.4nm, and it was changed about 2.58% when the dispersion was placed at 80℃ for 24h. Compared with polymerization before, thermal stability, centrifugal stability and freeze-thaw stability of encapsulated carbon black was improved greatly.
