Abstract: For the development and utilization of the local cellulose fiber resources, the chemical degumming process was adpoted to prepare firmiana platanifolia fiber in laboratory based on the chemical composition analysis. Performances of firmiana platanifolia fibers both in dry state and in humid state were analyed refering relevant standards. The spinnability of firmiana platanifolia fiber was evaluate comprehensively via fibers length analyzing and the length distribution curve. The appearances, crystallinity and orientation degree of degummed fibers were tested through SEM, XRD test respectively. Meanwhile, the comparative analysis on aggregation structure of the fiber has been made. The results show that the content of cellulose of firmiana platanifolia is more than 63%, and the pectin and wax content is higher. After the chemical degumming process, the percentage of gum in firmiana platanifolia fiber is 4.2%. The cross section of the fiber approximates to an ellipse without central cavity. And longitudinally there is groove and transverse section in the fiber, which has the higher initial modulus and lower elongation at break, but the linear density is larger. In Segal method, the crystallinity of fiber is 64.54%, and the orientation degree is 98.04%.
