Abstract: Change in fabrics appearance after repeated laundering depends on the material properties, mechanical force, detergents and many other factors which reduce the aesthetic value and wearability of a garment. Due to a variety of reasons, the individual results on traditional manual evaluation methods have big differences. In this paper, current research on methods for evaluating fabric smoothness appearance was reviewed. Besides, some important issues on technical aspects, evaluation index, classification methods and future study developments on wrinkling were deeply discussed. A precise and objective evaluation of fabric smoothness appearance can be helpful to assess textile material properties, clothing design, washing machine and detergents effect.
