Abstract:
Waste cotton fabrics abtivated carbon (AC-WCF) was prepared from waste cotton fabrics (WCF )by zinc chloride activation. The mass fraction (ω), impregnation time (t1), activation temperature (T) and activation time (t2) on adsorption properties of activated carbons were investigated by using the orthogonal experiment method. The obtained activated carbons (AC-WCF) were characterized by Nitrogen adsorption-desorption isotherms, scanning electron microscope (SEM) and FT-IR spectroscopy. Results show that the best sample of AC-WCF is obtained under the conditions: ω=45%; t1=16 h; T=700℃ and t2=30 min. And the AC-WCF possesses a large apparent surface area (SBET=1462 m2/g) and high adsorption pore volume (V=0.78 cm3/g) with average pore size diameter of 2.1 nm. The iodine, methylene blue and phenol adsorption value of the AC-WCF are 1193.8 mg/g, 25 ml/0.1g, and 160.7 mg/g respectively. Meanwhile, AC-WCF shows high decolorization capability for dye waste water.
