Abstract: In order to determine the antibacterial properties and cytotoxicity of the silver nanoparticlesfilled seacell fibers, the qualitative and quantitative inhibition trials of the silver nanoparticlesfilld seacell fibers against Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli are investigated. The cytotoxicity tests of the silver nanoparticles on the L-02 cell lines are conducted to evaluate the safty with MTT cytotoxity assay. The results showed that more than 75 % bacteria are inactivated when Staphylococcus aureus (ATCC 25923) and Escherichia coli (ATCC 25922) are incubated with 0.2% silver nanoparticles-filled seacell fibers for 4 hrs . MTT cytotoxicity test showed that the cell relative growth rates are over 90.0% and the cytotoxicity is about 1 degree (no MTT cytotoxity) when the L-02 cell lines are incubated with silver nanoparticles at 37°C under 5% CO2 for 72hrs. The silver nanoparticles-filled seacell fibers show high antibacterial properties and less cytotoxicityl and can be used as a new type of textile material.
