Abstract: Body is the fundamentality of garment design, whose precondition is to understand the physical attractiveness. This paper focuses on the determinants of female physical attractiveness based on evolutionary psychology and the relationship between these determinants and physical attractiveness. Three determinants of female physical attractiveness are the waist to hip ratio (WHR), body mass index (BMI) and volume height index (VHI). The degree of physical attractiveness is expressed as attractiveness rating. There is a weak negative correlation between the attractiveness ratings and WHR. The optimal value of WHR for attractiveness is 0.7. The relationship between BMI or VHI and attractiveness ratings is nonlinear. VHI, which is a newest suggested determinant, has not been applied widely.
